Learn how to use MaruMori and study Japanese effectively
I come from platform X, and want to use that for vocab / kanji / grammar instead. Can I just skip that part?
Can I skip it? (Yes, you can!)
Absolutely! Feel free to use the platform however you like. However, if you plan to use our adventure track and skip certain tiles, there are a few considerations you may want to make.
Kanji-learning Platforms (like WaniKani)
The biggest consideration to make if you want to use other platforms for kanji/vocab, and do only grammar on MaruMori, is that our reading exercises, grammar lessons, and grammar SRS assume that you are using our kanji/vocab track.
This means that there is a very high chance you will encounter unknown words and/or kanji in the reading exercises, grammar lessons, and grammar SRS .
Luckily, if you only want to drill the kanji and vocabulary that you haven't learned on the other platform, you don't have to do everything twice! For Wanikani specifically, we've made a sync, and it marks anything you've already studied as "known" on MaruMori, so you will only SRS items that you haven't learned on WK already.
For other kanji platforms (or previous knowledge), you can consider marking them as known manually.
Other grammar resources
If you want to use other resources for grammar, and MaruMori for vocab/kanji then the biggest thing to consider is that you will very likely encounter unknown grammar in the reading exercises.
Overall, we think that we teach grammar in a pretty awesome and in-depth way. So we do highly recommend you give our lessons a try first!
Green owl
Overall, we don't think that this platform is able to substitute for any part of MaruMori. If you want to do it on the side for fun, then more power to you! However, we recommend not thinking of it as a substitute for a proper grammar/vocabulary/kanji/reading resource.
