SRS (4) - Grammar SRS
Unlocking grammar SRS items
If you're following the MaruMori Adventure track, you'll be able to unlock grammar SRS items starting from the N5 (Elementary) island.
Any grammar lessons with associated grammar points will show what you can unlock at the bottom of the page:

Hitting "Mark as done" will complete the lesson and send all associated grammar points to your grammar SRS lesson queue!
Alternatively, you can unlock specific grammar points directly from the grammar library by adding them to a custom study list.

Grammar SRS lessons
Your grammar SRS lessons will show you each point's summary. They will also include a link to the main grammar article, example sentences, and related grammar points!

You'll then be quizzed in a similar style to your reviews, just like for kanji/vocabulary.
Grammar SRS reviews
There are two types of grammar SRS reviews:

Fill-in-the-blank

Unscramble
FITB
Fill-in-the-blank (FITB) type questions give you a sentence with a blank that you will be prompted to fill in with the correct grammar point.

You can click on "Hints" to reveal up to two different hints. The first hint will always be the English translation of the sentence, and the second hint will be more specific to the grammar point at hand:

Shake answers
Sometimes, there are multiple ways to express the same idea. In these cases, we still want to guide you towards using and testing yourself on the correct grammar point, but we also don't think it's fair that you get alternate answers totally wrong.
Shake answers are our way of warning you that you've used a correct point, but not the one we're looking for!

Unscramble
Unscramble type questions prompt you to form a sentence using "blocks", one or more of which contain the grammar point being tested. There are also (in most cases) two fake blocks that will try and trip you up. Watch out!

Note : There are often many different correct ways to form a sentence. We do our best to catch all valid sentence patterns and add them as accepted answers, so don't be surprised if your answer is accepted, even if it looks different than the original sentence!
Grammar SRS intervals
The intervals for grammar SRS are the same as the intervals for kanji/vocabulary. Yay!
They are:
4 hours -> 8 hours -> 1 day (23h) -> 2 days (47h) -> 1 week (167h) -> 2 weeks (335h) -> 1 month (719h) -> 4 months (2879h)

Once you complete the 2-day interval , you'll have leveled an item to Novice !

Completing the 2-week interval will level an item to Intermediate !

Completing the 1-month interval will level an item to Expert !

Completing the 4-month interval will level an item to Master !
Tip : Completing your reviews quickly after they come up is an essential part of successful SRSing. This is especially true for the first two intervals (4 and 8 hours), as this is the period where you need the most reinforcement. For this reason, many learners choose to do their lessons in the morning, so that they can do their 4 and 8-hour reviews throughout the day!
Grammar SRS difficulty
If you're used to only SRSing vocabulary and kanji, you may feel that grammar SRS is significantly harder. And this is because... it is!
A large part of this is that it requires you to output in Japanese, rather than simply recall an item's meaning or reading. This is essentially the difference between reading and speaking/writing.
This is especially true with unscramble, where you're essentially forming entire sentences from scratch. That's pretty awesome!
Our advice is to be very patient with yourself in terms of grammar SRS. Expect your accuracy to be lower, and trust the process. Be sure to review as often as needed, and don't be afraid to reset items. You got this!
